Digital Moment is scaling its AI Learning Labs, a hands-on AI literacy program for youth, to reach participants across four to five regions in Canada, with $150,000 CAD in support from RBC Foundation.

Proven Results from Digital Moment's AI Literacy Pilots

The program builds on a series of pilots delivered between January and March 2026 in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa, bringing together more than 90 young people across Canada, 12 AI experts, and industry partners spanning forestry, construction, healthcare, cybersecurity, real estate, and environmental sustainability. Participants left those sessions with a stronger grasp of AI, rating their understanding of the technology at 4.01 out of 5 and its relevance to their future careers at 8.08 out of 10.

Those results pointed to a clear gap: young people are growing up surrounded by AI tools, but few have had the chance to see how AI is actually used inside a workplace, or to practice using it thoughtfully alongside people already working in the field. With RBC Foundation's support, Digital Moment will close that gap for a new group of youth this year.

What the Expanded AI Learning Labs Will Deliver

Starting this fall, AI Learning Labs will bring together youth, AI practitioners, and industry professionals for hands-on sessions grounded in real sector challenges. Participants will explore how AI supports, rather than replaces, human decision-making, while building communication, critical thinking, and adaptability skills alongside their technical understanding. Priority will go to youth from underrepresented communities, including those with limited access to technology-focused learning opportunities.

By the end of the program, most participants are expected to leave with a stronger understanding of AI concepts and responsible use, along with a clearer sense of how AI connects to careers and industries that interest them. The workshops will also generate a library of youth-developed AI use cases that can support employers and educators beyond the life of the program.

While financially supported by RBC Foundation, Digital Moment is solely responsible for all content related to this project.
